Garden decking ideas

Decking provides a wonderful area to enjoy alfresco dining – taking the indoors outside with you, and making the most of the summer days. But if you have very little space, or an awkward or sloped garden, you may be left thinking that decking is not an option. The good news is, that simply isn’t the case! Check out our garden decking ideas and get creative.

Level it out

Built on a raised framework, decking is perfect for levelling an area of sloped or uneven ground. You could also include split levels of decking with steps connecting them, adding interest to the garden.

Add greenery

For smaller spaces, try adding small architectural beds to add greenery and interest. Somerlap have a range of timber planters including the Decking Garden Planter, Half Log Garden Planter and a Herb Planter – all perfect for creating a decking oasis.

Create colour and shade

Colourful pots around the edge of the decked area will add flashes of colour and brighten up decking as it (naturally) fades with time. You could also opt for a shaded decking area by installing a timber pergola. A pergola is perfect for encouraging plants and flowers to grow up and over, creating a beautiful, dappled area of shade.

So now you have some garden decking ideas and inspiration for your small garden or awkward space, what about the options available?

Somerlap have everything you need

We stock softwood timber decking in two different sizes, as well as anti-slip decking boards. You can also pick up all the necessary decking screws, joist hangers and brackets required to carry out the simple job of installing decking. We even stock the decking rails, posts and spindles that will add the finishing touches to any deck.

Safety first

We would always recommend treating our softwood timber decking with an anti-slip coating and treating it regularly to maintain both the colour and grip of the decking. Take a look at our range of Decking Stain for more information.

Please be aware that in our wet, British climate all decking boards can become slippery. Take extra care if you are creating the area for children to play on. We recommend thorough cleaning at least a couple of times a year, and certainly after winter when algae and debris have built up on the surface.
