What will you use your new garden shed for?

There are many factors to consider when choosing your brand new garden shed. First, you’ll need to decide on the purpose of your shed – it could be a garden storage shed, a place to do DIY and hobbies, or even a home office.

The two most common styles of garden shed are apex and pent sheds. Apex sheds have a traditional triangular sloped roof, which provides good drainage and creates lots of interior space. Pent sheds have a single sloped roof, so they make good workspaces by offering generous headroom.

Whatever you plan to use your new wooden garden shed for, be sure to check it will have enough room inside for your intended purpose. For garden storage sheds, you’ll also need to check the items you plan to store will fit through the doorway. You might want to add double doors to your shed to accommodate bulky items like lawnmowers.

Where will your wooden garden shed go?

As well as thinking about how much space you need inside your shed, don’t forget to check you have enough space in your garden for your timber shed. Measure your space carefully, allowing for an overhanging roof if your shed has one.

Consider improving access to your shed by laying ground covering or a paved path. If you want electricity and light in your shed, ensure cables can easily be laid to connect it to a power supply.

It’s also important your shed is placed away from any overhanging branches that could cause damage to the roof, and that the area it’s placed in has good drainage.
