Somerlap donations help local Somerset business
In March Somerlap received a letter from Secret World Wildlife Rescue in East Huntspill, who were asking local companies for donations of the materials required to build a new orphan room. Somerlap and BSW Timber offered to supply all the wood, which was delivered to Secret World in September, and last week work began on the new facility.
Secret World cares for over 5,000 wildlife casualties every year, and half of these are orphans. Small groups are cared for by specific staff members who take them home, often feeding them through the night. When the staff return to work the incubators are usually kept in the Hospital room which is for animals often needing medication, and therefore there is a danger of infection. The orphan room will remove this risk and will be located within the barn, so that visitors can see through the viewing windows and watch the babies in the incubators or animals being fed.
Secret World have been in touch with us this week to share some photographs of the project’s progress. They have two volunteers (Graham Hardes and Greg Kelloway) who are working three days a week and are, according to Secret World, ‘cracking along’ with the job!
Keep visiting our Blog and Facebook page for regular updates on this wonderful project.
