The first Somerlap Christmas Fayre was a huge success attracting many local businesses and shoppers. Wedmore Junior Football Club got an early Christmas present when they received a cheque for £250. The donation was made partly from the proceeds of stall hire and refreshment sales with the remainder being topped up by Kevin Bond, Somerlap’s Managing Director. Wedmore FC Chairman, Jim Cavanagh collected the cheque and the club plan to buy two small goalposts for the junior team.

Kevin Bond said, “Our Christmas Fayre was very popular and we are really pleased that our donation will help young people to play sport in the local area. Due to the success of the Fayre this year, we are hoping to hold the Fayre again in 2016”.

Pallet Pack competition

Somerlap’s Christmas Fayre also marked the culmination of its Pallet Pack competition, where people were invited to collect a bundle of wood from Somerlap and create something with it. The winner was local dentist Colin Taylor who created the 'Plantray' – a decorative raised planter that includes a separate tray that sits on top without crushing the plants below. His ingenious invention won him a fabulous Somerlap BBQ Shelter.
