Here at Somerlap, we’re always looking for ways to make our business even more environmentally friendly. We have a proven track record when it comes to considering the environment in our processes, including the collecting of disused pallets for re-use, repair, resell or recycling (recycled pallets are often turned into woodchip for use as biomass fuel).
In a further effort to not only improve our green credentials, but also keep up with growing demand, we have invested in a larger, more powerful woodchipping machine. The new machine, weighing in at an eye-watering 14,500kg, will turn recycled pallets (those that are beyond repair) into woodchip for other uses. The resulting woodchip is a popular biomass fuel and is also used to power our unique heating system in the Somerlap workshops.
This new machine will improve our output of woodchip from recycled pallets thanks to its whopping 3,000kg/hour capacity. Kevin Bond, Managing Director of Somerlap, said; “Demand for renewable energy is increasing and we need to keep pace with demand, both in terms of the volume and type of wooden items which customers return to us. By investing in this new equipment we are ensuring that Somerlap is prepared for current and future demand.”
