The Taunton-based Open Door charity helps people without homes with meals and support. In December the charity received a much-needed and very welcome gift (just in time for Christmas) of a generous donation and five crates full of goods for people in need.
Generous donations for Open Door charity
The £750 donation was raised from the proceeds of stall hire, sales of refreshments and raffle tickets at Somerlap’s Christmas Craft Fayre held in December. The figure included an additional donation from Somerlap themselves.

One was located at their site in Mark, while the other four were stationed at Blagdon Primary School, The Seymour Arms (in Blagdon), Blagdon Village Club and The Railway Inn at Yatton. Each crate was filled to the brim by generous local people, who donated everything from clothes to food and toiletries.
The five crates were collected by Somerlap and delivered to Open Door in time for Christmas and, thanks to the donations from Somerlap and others, Open Door were able to deliver hampers to those they have recently helped find homes. Each Christmas hamper contained food and other essentials such as socks.
Somerlap Managing Director, Kevin Bond said: “We would like to firstly thank the various establishments who agreed to house the crates for us as well as a big thank you to everyone who so generously donated to our collection for Open Door. The donations were fantastic and we received so many things – everyone was so generous and the response was amazing. It just goes to show how kind people can be!”
Third Christmas Fayre is huge success
Somerlap’s third Christmas Craft Fayre took place on Saturday 9th December at their site in Mark.
The Fayre hosted many stalls selling a huge variety of artisan Christmas items including decorations, treats, sweets, personalised gifts, knitted items, textiles, and beauty products. Visitors were also able to buy fresh Christmas trees and holly wreaths on site.
Kevin Bond said: “Our Christmas Craft Fayre provides a wonderful festive event for the local community as well as an additional trading opportunity for local businesses."
