Although Spring is in the air, there are still a few weeks left to enjoy cosy evenings curled up in front of the fire. Even if you have already stopped having real fires, it's a good time to stock up on winter fuel now and get ahead of the game. Here's Somerlap's recommendations...

Kiln Dried Logs

It's essential that logs are dry before attempting to burn them and they can take between 12 and 18 months to fully dry out. Using kiln dried logs ensures you fuel your fire with logs that are immediately ready to burn. Somerlap's Kiln Dried Logs are an ideal winter fuel, because they've been dried to a moisture content of less than 20%. They are available for delivery in 80 litre bags or as loose quantities of 0.5m3 and 1m3.

Unseasoned Hardwood Logs

If you have the space and time to store Unseasoned Hardwood Logs allowing them to fully dry out before use, then unseasoned logs offer a fantastic value winter fuel option. Unseasoned logs come in at around 20% cheaper than kiln dried logs. They are also available in 80 litre bags or as multiple cubic metre quantities.

Brackenburn Brackettes

A fantastic eco friendly winter fuel option, Brackenburn Brackettes are produced from 100% bracken which avoids felling trees for winter fuel. Grown on the Mendip Hills, once the bracken has turned brown and dried it is then compacted into Brackettes. Suitable for both open fires and wood burners, research has shown that Brackenburn Brackettes burn hotter and for longer than oak logs so they are definitely worth taking a look at.
