Somerlap woodchip for biomass fuelAt Somerlap we are always looking for ways to be more environmentally friendly. One way we're helping the environment is by recycling timber pallets into woodchip. This can be bought for use as a ground covering, but it is also suitable for use as a fuel in biomass burners.

Recycling pallets into woodchip

We make our recycled woodchip from pallets that can no longer be repaired. The wood is put into our wood shredder, a machine that chips the wood into very small pieces. This creates an affordable, environmentally-friendly fuel that can be used in biomass burners.

Our recycled woodchip fuel is used by a number of local people and businesses to run their homes and business operations, including Ecochipp, who work with companies such as Chase Distillery.

We also use it to heat our own premises in Mark, Somerset. The wood chip is dried in our 750kw boiler that provides heat for our kiln and wood area.

BSL Authorised Fuel

Our wood chip is authorised by the Government's Biofuel Suppliers List (BSL). To become authorised we had to prove our woodchip meets sustainability requirements.
