Why we love Brackenburn Brackettes
Featured on the BBC Countryfile programme, the Brackenburn Brackette "Super Log" is made from 100% bracken and fits neatly in Somerlap's ethic of using (wherever possible) natural products. Burning the Brackettes is better for the environment, because it avoids the cutting down of trees. Suitable for wood burners and open fires, extensive testing has found that Brackettes burn hotter and for longer than oak! Once burnt the bracken ashes contain nutrient rich potash, which makes an ideal garden fertiliser.
Each bag contains 10 individual Brackenburn eco-logs.
How are Brackenburn Brackettes made?
Bracken (a large variety of fern) grows naturally in the nearby Mendip Hills. It's harvested once it has turned brown, dried, then compacted to create the Brackettes. This process naturally helps increase the bio-diversity of the land. Once the bracken is removed, many different types of flora and fauna are able to flourish.
